Bakery Blog & Recipes

Welcome to The OTHER Side of Mindful BakeHouse
The side for the do-it-yourselfers, the adventurous bakers, and those that live a little to far away to make it to our bakery in person. This is where I post all the fun gluten-free dairy-free things I've been testing/making that aren't official BakeHouse recipes. Most of which we also share on our YouTube Channel, as well as our second instagram account, & TikTok. So if you're like me and you'd rather watch than read, feel free to go follow us on your fav social media app in

We made Billie Eilish’s gf/v Peanut Butter Oatmeal Cookie
Did you know that Billie Eilish shared her PB cookie recipe on TikTok?!? and it’s gluten-free, dairy-free, & vegan!! I made these famous cookies with my kids last night and they were soooo ooey gooey GOOD!! (and super kid friendly for them to help/make). Ingredients: 1 cup brown sugar (we switched it to coconut sugar) 1 cup peanut butter 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup oat flour (blend 1c oats in blender/nutribullet) 1 tsp baking soda 1/8 tsp salt 1/4 cup almond milk chocolate ch

Gluten-Free Pumpkin Spice Oreos | DIY Recipe
Now that Nabisco makes gluten-free Golden Oreos, we can make our own Very-Limited Edition GF Pumpkin Spice Oreos. They just add "artificial flavours" and "paprika oleoresin" (for colour), so why can't we? And if you don't have pumpkin spice, we have a recipe for you below. Steps: -gently open your oreos -using a knife scrape the icing into a bowl -add some pumpkin pie spice (and food colour if desired) -mix, then re-ice your oreos. I find the easiest way is to use the back of

🔥🍢 This s’more hack is genius!
We were at my brother’s cottage this past weekend, making campfire s’mores, so we HAD TO try out Nick DiGiovanni new s’more technique to melt your chocolate at the same time as toasting your marshmallow - spoiler alert, it’s a game changer!! And totoally genius!! (Just kinda sucked that my expensive gluten-free graham crackers all broke in the process or were broken to start, lol. 😭 But the “regular” ones saved the day! 🙌🏻🎉) It worked so well, you gotta try this next time

Blueberry Hack 🫐😉 take all the sweet ones! (or take the sour-lower-sugar ones if thats your jam)
Try this fun hack if you want to secretly steal all the sweetest berries (or if your kids will only eat the super sweet ones! 🫐😬), …or if you’re keto/low-carb/diabetic and want to only eat the sour ones. 🙌🏻👍🏻 It actually works! But why? 🤔 Because the sweeter ones are more dense and sink to the bottom. Watch the video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/x7ptTlt1qAI

Cookbook Obsession? 152+ At Last Count!! 😜❤️📚 Do You Have A Fav?
My cookbook obsession: 😜❤️📚 I’ve been told more than once that I should get an e-reader. Want to see my whole stash of cook books? Click here (I kept finding more as I filmed this, lol): https://youtube.com/shorts/IulMKmlSlM8 Truth is, I love real books. And I write all kinds of notes in my recipe books too, tweaks and tips to make it different or better next time. Or so I don’t go back to a recipe we didn’t like. My favourites are so dog eared, stained, and their pages are

This was a restock day trip up to London, Ontario that James & I did back in February, to meet a delivery driver from Toronto bringing us Konscious Kitchen products, as well as frozen meals from Riz Gluten-Free. Then we went to Joanie's GF to pick up a restock some of her items that we carry, and pick up some frozen meals from Annie's Seafood up in Stratford. But we were super early, and got to also sit and eat at The Mule, a 100% Gluten-Free Mexican restaurant. (You HAVE to

My day trip to Gluten Free Fest in London ON
Come along and walk through GFF with me: https://youtu.be/CwLbL5VBEGQ This is a throwback to a day trip I made in the summer, by myself to visit Gluten Free Fest in London Ontario in 2024, to pick up from a bunch of local gf bakeries (to restock our gran b go freezers back at. our own gf bakery in Windsor), as well as getting to check out their Farm Boy (Windsor is too small a city to have some of the fun/specialty grocery chains yet). Some the awesome vendors at the show (so

https://youtube.com/shorts/7Lq8s4MmHa8?feature=share If you are gluten-free, and ever find yourself in the Toronto Area, here is a gem of a restaurant you NEED to check out!! One entire side (so half!) of their menu is gluten-free, and 100% of the items on the (hilarious and unique) kids menu offer gluten-free substitutes. Holiday Food Flares - Are you flaring now too?
I made a bad choice yesterday, and now I hurt. I woke up with that all too familiar feeling, like I’d “been hit by a truck”. My whole body hurts. I used to feel this way every morning before going grain, dairy & nightshade free. It’s so hard to will yourself up & out of bed. To get up & get going. I know I’ve “red-fooded” myself (when you eat a food on your Red Food/Do Not Eat list), and am now in a flare up. I have to push through and get up. For me, luckily, I know at least

Work-Life Balance? Does it exist?
Our bakery has been a labour of love from the very start. It started more than a year ago as a "side-hustle" while James & I both still had full-time jobs. I started baking on my time off, and James joined in quite soon after, taking over the bagels & pretzel orders, while I baked all the sweets. We'd pack up our kiddos and take them across town to bake late into the evening (sometimes a little too late - sorry teachers!!). And we'd ask our big kids to babysit the little ones

My Cookies are Springbok-Puzzle-Famous!
You won't catch my cookies with sprinkles or brightly coloured icing anymore, but it gives you a glimpse into my family's hard-core holiday baking tradition. My family takes cookie baking pretty seriously. Every December, as far back as I remember, my mom would spend a whole Saturday at my aunt's house baking the most amazing cookies, that they'd pack into pretty cookie tins, and hand out to everyone at Christmas. When I got old enough, I got to join too! I started as the ch

What is it like to be a Downtown Windsor Farmers' Market Vendor?
Short answer: Amazing & crazy! Long answer: It's a very early, very long day, exhausting & exhilarating... We started at the DWFM back in September 2020 (has it been more than a year!?!) Back then, I was still working full time as a Pharmaceutical Scientist at Catalent, so I signed up for alternating weekends, to give me time to bake enough product to bring. It meant lots of super late nights baking, labeling, packing and organizing. Waking up before the crack of dawn the mor

What's with this plate, you ask?
A few of you have asked about the striped plate we use in some of our photos. This awesome beachy plate in the photo below. (photo credit: 3 Girls and a Kiln) It starts back in Toronto, almost 15 years ago, when I was doing my post-grad in pharmaceutical R&D and met my best friend - she was in the class right after mine, and we ended up at a conference together and started a conversation over tattoos, lol. Fast forward a few years after we both finished our programs, and we

House of Sophrosyne Bake Sale
This Saturday, October 30, 2021 we will be participating in the county-wide bake sale fundraiser for the House of Sophrosyne!!! Stay tuned for their announcement this week, with a list of other participating bakeries across the county - but we're one of them! (so come see us Saturday if you need gf, dairy-free, or naturally sweetened goodies). Each bakery will be donating a portion of their sales that day. Instead of picking a special item, we've decided to donate $5 from EVE
