Make your own Brown Sugar Substitute
Have you ever found yourself without brown sugar in your house, when you’re craving your fav cookie recipe - what do you do?? Did you know you can make it?!? All the manufacturers do is add molasses back into white sugar to make brown sugar, and you can too.
Another reason to make your own: I have been LOVING allulose, and experimenting with it in all kinda of things, but I have not yet found a brown sugar version for deep and delicious, molasses-y soft & chewy baked goods (which is totally needed now that it’s fall/pumpkin spice season!! We made it for our pumpkin cookie dough bark here: https://youtube.com/shorts/TaL0Y0mH3cE?feature=share)
So we made our own, and you can too, and you can control your carbs by adding either 1 or 2 tbsp of molasses.
Simply add 1 cup of your sugar-free substitute of choice (in our case we used allulose) in a food processor and pulse in 1-2tbsp of molasses.
For light brown sugar (and less added carbs) use 1 tbsp molasses.*
For dark brown sugar (also adds more carbs) use 2 tbsp molasses.*
*NOTE ON CARBS: The organic Wholesome brand molasses we used contains 14g of carbohydrates per tablespoon but remember we’re adding this to 1 whole cup of sugar substitute, which will then be used in a recipe, so you aren’t straight up eating 1-2 tbsp of molasses. I think it’s great and adds that soft chewy texture that brown sugar creates in baked goods, but if you’re strict keto and counting carbs, then keep this in mind. ♡
Store leftovers in airtight container.
