The side for the do-it-yourselfers, the adventurous bakers, and those that live a little too far away to make it to our bakery in person. This is where I post all the fun gluten-free dairy-free things I've been testing/making that aren't official BakeHouse recipes. Most of which we also share on our YouTube Channel, as well as our second instagram account, & TikTok. (Stabilized) Coconut Whipped Cream
A super simple & easy homemade whip cream, made with a can of coconut milk, some maple syrup & vanilla. It makes a great fluffy whip cream to top your favourite desserts. We also have 2 ways you can use to stabilize it, to make it thicker & more pipeable!! But these are optional. You CAN also make this a day ahead and chill overnight for a thicker whip cream WITHOUT a stabilizer. One stabilizer I haven’t nailed down yet is using agar agar, so if you’ve had success with that w

🤎 My Homemade Chocolate Sprinkles
I was making sprinkles to restock my sprinkle bins at the bakery last week, and thought I should share my chocolate sprinkle recipes with you! I’ve shared my caramel sprinkles and my super tricky coloured sprinkles, but these ones are actually the EASIEST to make, and a great starting point if you’ve never made your own sprinkles before. So here’s how I make my coconut sugar-sweetened chocolate sprinkles. I put them on my gluten-free/paleo/vegan chocolate cakes & cupcakes. (T

2-Ingredient Watermelon Sorbet
🍉😅Don’t waste a mushy watermelon! I dropped this melon, and while I was happy it didn’t crack open on the ground, it made inside a weird kind of mushy that none of us wanted to eat. So here is me trying to salvage it. And it worked out AMAZING!! PS. It was also supposed to be yellow inside 😅💛😢 Ingredients: Watermelon Juice from 1 lime Optional: Honey/maple syrup, to taste (but mine didn’t need it) Instructions 1. Cut 1/2 a watermelon into chunks & freeze until solid, at

Whole Egg-Flax Bread
🍞🤔 Don’t want to separate eggs or find a way to use up those extra egg yolks? This version of my fluffy keto flax bread uses WHOLE eggs instead, and simplifies the process too, so you can pull this recipe together in less 5 minutes flat (minus the hour bake time). Ingredients 230g golden flaxseed, finely ground 18g psyllium husk powder 16g baking powder 1/2 tsp sea salt 3 whole eggs 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 cup (240mL) warm water Instructions Whisk together ground flax,

😅😭 I Thought My Recipe Was Broken. It Wasn't
Has this ever happened to you? I have been troubleshooting this 3-ingredient flax bread recipe for months. After working perfectly for years, it suddenly started making a large air pocket under the top crust (known as a "flying crust") and a dense bread layer underneath. I worried it wasn't a reliable recipe anymore, so I started testing variables one by one. I tried: * blending the flax differently * changing the water temperature * adjusting the mixing method * allowing the

Healthy Mango Sorbet Bars
Inspired by the mango sorbet bars at Costco that my kids love. While I appreciate that the first ingredient is actually mango purée, at $17 for a box of 12 bars, it seemed silly not to make our own. A big bag of frozen mango costs about the same (or less!), it's already peeled and pitted, and it's frozen at peak ripeness. Best of all, these homemade bars couldn't be easier. Ingredients 3 cups (420g) frozen mango, thawed slightly 1 tbsp lemon juice Pinch of sea salt Optional:

Chocolate-Dipped Strawberry Popsicles
If you love chocolate-covered strawberries, you are going to LOVE these popsicles! A bright, creamy strawberry popsicle dipped in a thin, crackly chocolate shell. 🍓🍫 They're made with just a handful of simple ingredients and taste like a frozen chocolate-dipped strawberry on a stick. Naturally dairy-free, vegan, and easy to make, they're the perfect summer treat! Makes 6–8 popsicles Strawberry Popsicles 3 cups fresh or frozen strawberries 1/3 cup full-fat coconut milk 2–4

3-Ingredient Cantaloupe Sorbet
Skip the viral 2-ingredient cantaloupe sorbet hack & do this instead!! It’s less effort, less waste, & so much smoother in texture. Made with just 3 simple ingredients, this easy sorbet lets the fresh cantaloupe flavour shine. Enjoy it straight from the food processor like soft serve, or freeze it briefly for a perfectly scoopable summer treat. 🍈🍨 Ingredients 1/2 medium cantaloupe (about 600g of cantaloupe chunks) 1-2 tbsp maple syrup, to taste 1 tbsp lemon juice Optional:

Healthy Blueberry Sorbet
Stunning blueberry sorbet, that is so refreshing & easy, and so much better for you than store bought (can you even get blueberry-flavour sorbet?). Here’s how you make it: Ingredients 325g (about 2½–3 cups) frozen blueberries 3 tbsp maple syrup 1 tbsp lemon juice Instructions 1. Let the frozen blueberries sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes to slightly soften (this helps them blend more easily) 2. Add the blueberries to a food processor/high-speed blender with the maple

Viral Iced Banana Bread Latte
DF/V ✨🍌☕️ The viral banana bread latte off the secret Starbucks menu, but made at home, better-for-you, and vegan, and oh so good!!! Homemade banana milk itself is super good too & a great refreshing summer drink served over ice. Froth: 1 cup homemade banana milk (see previous post!) 1 tsp coconut sugar (or brown sugar) ¼ tsp cinnamon ½ tsp vanilla Pour over ice Top with espresso Optional/extra: garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon, some banana slices, or some graham cracker

Homemade Vegan Banana Milk
I made homemade Korean Banana Milk using oat milk, and maple syrup, so I could try the viral Starbucks Banana Bread Latte. The latte was delicious, but I think the homemade banana milk itself is even better & a great refreshing summer drink served over ice!! This recipe will definitely be on repeat for the summer. It’s also a great way to use up those ripe bananas, when you don’t feel like turning on your oven to make banana bread. Makes a little over 4 cups/ 1 liter Ingredie

3-Ingredient Raspberry Sorbet
Let’s make 3 ingredient raspberry sorbet. Add frozen raspberries to a food process0r with maple syrup and lemon juice. Then blend until smooth & creamy. You can enjoy it right away at a soft serve consistency or freeze 20-40 minutes for a scoopable refreshing sorbet. Ingredients 325g (about 2½–3 cups) frozen raspberries 3 tbsp maple syrup 1 tbsp lemon juice Instructions Let the frozen raspberries sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes to slightly soften (this helps them ble

Gluten-Free Sourdough Discard Crumpets
Do you already have a gf starter, and want something to use your sourdough discard? Or are you looking for a super easy breakfast idea? I am new to crumpets, but became quickly obsessed (I’ve made these SOOO many times this week…). They’re so quick & easy to stir together with your sourdough discard, and taste like a cross between an English muffin and a pancake. I love these topped with an easy raspberry chia jam that comes together in the same time it takes to make your cru

Easy Raspberry Chia Jam
This super easy chia jam comes together in less time than it takes to make your crumpets!! (Or whatever you’re slathering it on!!). AND if you’re trying to up your fibre (hello fibre-maxing trend!), raspberries are one of the highest fibre berries, PLUS we’ve added fibre-packed chia seeds to thicken the jam. I do this with organic frozen raspberries, but you could swap them for almost any fresh or frozen fruit. Ingredients: 270g (about 2 cups) frozen raspberries 1/4 cup maple

🍋 Vegan Lemon Curd (Maple Syrup Sweetened)
Here’s another recipe for your arsenal of dairy-free basics. It’s quick to whip up and is so fresh & zippy & lovely on cookies, cheesecakes (and as tomorrow’s churro dipping sauce!! shhh!) - you’ll be putting it on everything (or eating it by the spoonful). Ingredients * 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice * 1 tbsp lemon zest * 1/2 cup maple syrup * 1/3 cup full-fat coconut cream (thick part off the top of a can that has been chilled) * 2 tbsp tapioca starch * Pinch of salt * 1 tbsp co

Lemon Raspberry Pavlovas
Yesterday we showed you how to make maple lemon curd, so today we’re making pavlovas with the 3 leftover egg whites. These pillowy maple pavlovas are crunchy on the outside, and perfectly chewy & marshmallowy on the inside. Topped with a bright & cheery lemon curd, and raspberry sauce. But you could also top them with coconut whip cream and/or fresh or freeze dried berries. Ingredients 3 large egg whites (room temp) pinch of salt 2/3 cup maple sugar (finely blended) 1 tsp pot

Strawberry Lemonade Popsicles | Day 6 of lemon recipes
Perfectly refreshing summer treat balancing sweet strawberries & zingy lemonade in popsicle form. This is on repeat at my house in the warm weather - they’re my daughter’s favourite (she actually helped develop this recipe for our bakery). It also works amazing in the Ninja Creami as a frozen strawberry lemonade - see note below recipe. INGREDIENTS -4 oz (115g) fresh or frozen strawberries -5 tbsp honey (you can sub maple syrup but it will be more icy) -1/2 tsp vanilla* -6 tb

Pringle Toffee Crunch/Bark/Christmas Crack
I don’t know who needs to hear this but TODAY is 250 days until Christmas. Starting today I’m posting a Christmas recipe every 50 days to count down to Christmas. So here we are, I thought it would be fun to riff on the chocolate Pringle hack that is going viral right now, and make pringle xmas crack. Except, Pringles are NOT gluten-free, so we’re using “No Name” brand Pringles-style chips instead. Spread a can of chips on a lined baking sheet, slightly crunch them down, top
